Mariah Carey to Return Gaddafi Family Fee

Add Mariah Carey to the roster of names that includes songstress Nelly Furtado who are returning their reported $1 million fees for performing for Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s family.

While I understand the political correctness of this action, I’m not so sure it’s a great idea to be handing the Gaddafi clan millions of dollars right now. I think it would be a far better idea to contribute the money to a cause supporting Libya’s people.

Good for Mariah and I hope it goes to charity. But in fairness to her and other entertainers, it’s possible she didn’t really know who Gaddafi was. Most entertainers really aren’t that worldly and don’t know anymore about geo-politics than the average American. Also, Gaddafi was somewhat welcomed back into the fold by the Bush Administration.
